Dolomite Music Festival on the Alpe di Siusi

From January 25th to February 1st 2009, a total of 22 shows and 11 of the foremost born-and-bred Alpine groups will be filling the air around the wintry Alpe di Siusi. The “Swing on Snow” festival offers real folk music ranging from the authentic to the more experimental and the selection of full-blooded musicians will be covering the Slopes and huts in a blaze of musical colour. Moreover, with natural acoustics like the Alpe di Siusi’s, artists can happily relinquish their amps for the duration.

The fourth edition of “Swing on Snow” invites all friends of folk music to come and enjoy a full week of numerous shows from outstanding artists in a truly unique setting. Tunes, songs and dance will come together in cheering the terraces of mountain huts and restaurants and the slopes, pubs, hotels and restaurants of Europe's vastest mountain range. These vibrant performers, inspirationally innovative in their choice of instruments and forms of expression while never straying far from the traditional, have an outstanding awareness of how to connect to people through their music.

With a program which encompasses the most contrasting of musical styles, artistic director Hartwig Mumelter, with the philosophy that folk music is not for the folk, but of the folk, aims to “warm hearts more than legs”. “Quite a few of the artists invited to participate have never played in South Tyrol, or are known only to insiders”, continues Mumelter, “and the fact that we have placed our highest emphasis on originality in our choice of groups certainly distinguishes us from other festivals”.
